The Travel demand management unit (TDM) assists by implementing initiatives that support active transport (walking, cycling and public transport) and reduce single occupant vehicle travel (car pooling and teleworking).
Transport access guides
Transport access guides provide customised travel information for people travelling to and from a particular site or venue using a number of different forms of active transport – walking, cycling and public transport. The RTA encourages and supports organisations to develop their own transport access guides (TAGs).
Car pooling
Car pooling is the sharing of rides in a private vehicle between the driver and one or more passenger. It involves the use of one persons private or company vehicle to share journeys (usually commuting to and from work) with one or more passengers. This can be done by using one car or rotating cars.
Teleworking
By working from home or a location close to home (telecentre) on an occasional or regular basis, employees are able to manage their outputs more effectively, decrease their travel time significantly and create a better work-life balance.
Active transport
Active transport (also known as sustainable transport) refers to walking, cycling or using public transport to reach a desired location. These methods are considered to be less damaging to the environment and contribute less to traffic congestion than one-person car journeys.
