Proposed changes to weekday opening times
In October 2009, the RTA announced its proposal to reduce the number of weekday openings of the Spit Bridge to improve traffic flow for motorists. Spit Bridge is an essential transport link between Sydney’s northern beaches and the city and is used by approximately 70,000 motorists daily and approximately 60,000 bus commuters daily.
The RTA’s proposal for weekday opening times is:
Current weekend and public holiday opening times, shown above, will not change.
The weekday opening times that would be removed are 2.45pm and 7.30pm, peak periods for motorists, creating traffic congestion and substantial delays. There is also some adjustment to the remaining times, and the addition of a 9.30pm opening during daylight saving.
The RTA is inviting comments from the community on this proposal.
The Spit Bridge Review of Environmental Factors is on display until Wednesday 4 November 2009 at Mosman and Manly Council libraries, Manly Motor Registry, and below. The review describes the proposal and its possible impacts.

NEW weekend and public holiday opening times from Monday 2 April 2007
In December 2006 the RTA proposed to reduce the number of openings of the Spit Bridge on weekends and public holidays from eleven (11) to eight (8) to improve traffic flow for northern beaches motorists. A proposed timetable was displayed and circulated for comment.
After considering all views and feedback received, the RTA has decided to proceed with a modified timetable to improve traffic flow over the bridge while minimising the impact on water users.
From Monday 2 April 2007, the Spit Bridge will open at the following times on weekends and public holidays: 8.30am, 10.00am, 11.30am, 14.30pm, 16.30pm, 18.30pm, 20.30pm and 21.30pm.
Weekday opening times will not change.
