Traffic and transport for special events

The RTA's Transport Management Centre (TMC) minimises disruption to the road network resulting from on-road special events by ensuring that appropriate traffic management arrangements are in place.

These include:

  • Temporary road closures: The closure of roads to all vehicular traffic with the exception of emergency service vehicles.
  • Special event clearways: Vehicles are prevented from stopping at the kerb during an event unless there is an emergency. Buses, taxis and hire cars can stop at the kerb only to pick up or set down passengers.

For information about traffic arrangements for special events go to the News and events section of this website, or call the traffic enquiry line on 132 701.

For information about public transport for special events go to the Transport Infoline website, or call 131 500.
