Road occupancies and developments

The RTA's Transport Management Centre (TMC) co-ordinates the approvals process for road occupancies and developments, and filming on RTA managed roads or property.

  • A road occupancy is any activity involving the closure of traffic lanes or the movement of slow or over-sized vehicles that are not associated with a road development, such as residential construction work and tree-lopping.
  • A road development is any activity to maintain, improve or expand the road network, such as road widening and road re-surfacing.

The co-ordination of these activities helps to maximise the efficiency of the road network for all road users.

If you require further information about road occupancies and developments, please contact the TMC's Planned Incidents Unit on (02) 8396 1513 during office hours (8am to 4pm) or 131 700 after hours.
