Travelling on the F3 Freeway
The F3 Freeway is one of the busiest roads in New South Wales (NSW), linking Sydney to the Central Coast, Newcastle and the Hunter regions. It carries more than 75,000 cars and 7,000 heavy vehicles between Sydney and the Central Coast every day. Delays for motorists are unavoidable if a major incident occurs on the F3, so it's important to know what to do if there is a major incident.
What is contra flow?
If an incident results in the need to close all lanes of the F3 in one direction and has the potential to keep the road closed for at least two hours, a contra flow may be used to divert traffic onto the other carriageway.
