An RTA E-Toll tag makes it easier for you to drive on all motorways in Sydney and interstate
With an RTA E-Toll tag you can pay tolls automatically without stopping. You can use your RTA E-Toll Tag on all toll roads in Australia - the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and Bridge, Cross City Tunnel, Eastern Distributor, the M5, Westlink M7, M4, M2, Lane Cove Tunnel and Falcon Street Gateway. You can also use it on the motorways in Melbourne and Brisbane.
How it works
When you open an RTA E-Toll tag account and receive your E-Toll tag, attach it to the inside of your vehicle’s front windscreen. Then, whenever you drive through an electronic toll lane marked with the red and yellow ‘E’ symbol or past a toll collection point a scanner will detect the tag. You’ll hear a short trill and the toll will be automatically deducted from your RTA E-Toll tag account.
What it costs
To open an RTA E-Toll tag account, you will need to pay a security deposit for each tag. This will be refunded when the tag is returned undamaged. You also pay an opening balance for pre-paid tolls. There are no administration or low-usage fees. Whenever your account balance drops to a minimum balance set by you, it is topped-up automatically by your nominated top-up amount.
There are two types of E-Toll tag accounts for you to choose from – frequent user and infrequent user. See the table below to find a tag type to suit your motorway use.
If you’re likely to spend more than $70 a month per tag on tolls, select the frequent user plan. If you’re a very frequent toll road user, consider setting a higher top-up amount You can pay a sum up-front which will last you longer, and your top-up amount can be set higher to ensure you don’t have to top-up as often.
If you expect to spend less than $70 a month per tag on tolls, the infrequent user plan will suit you. It has a lower cost up-front, and your top-up amount can be set as low as $20.
Please note: The RTA may vary the top-up amount for infrequent user accounts, rounded up to the nearest $10 and to a maximum of $80 per tag, to cover the average monthly spend on tolls at the time of top-up (based on spend up to the previous three months). When the calculated top-up amount becomes more than $70 per tag, the account will be changed to frequent user.
