Public transport information and priority system (PTIPS)

Developed as part of the RTA Bus Priority program, this system gives priority to buses at traffic signals by altering the sequencing and timing of the signals.

Global positioning systems and radio data communications deliver information about buses and their location. This information is used to forecast the arrival time of the bus at traffic signals ahead.

PTIPS can alter traffic signal timing to:

  • Allow the bus to maintain its scheduled timetable.
  • Give bus passengers a more reliable service.
  • Allow bus operators to schedule their buses more efficiently.
