The Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) provides parking concessions to people with mobility disabilities.

Changes made to the scheme in September 2003 help to protect the interests of legitimate users and prevent the fraudulent use of MPS cards.

All applications for new or renewal MPS cards must be signed by a medical doctor. Doctors are aware that the fraudulent use of MPS cards disadvantage the people the scheme is designed to help, and will not sign the medical certificate unless you genuinely meet the requirements.

Note: When applying for an Individual MPS card, the medical certificate will only be valid for up to six months from the date the medical practitioner signed the form. The medical certificate for a Temporary MPS card will only be valid for a three-month period starting from the date the medical practitioner signs the medical certificate.

The RTA issues a licence-style card that includes the cardholder’s photograph, and other security features such as a hologram and a 'ghost' photo image. Proof of identity is required to ensure only eligible people receive a card.
