In February 2011 two cricket teams were given the opportunity of a lifetime. Comboyne and North Shore Cricket Clubs were winners of a Slow Down Pledge competition that gave them the opportunity to meet Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) SpeedBlitz Blues.
20/20 match against Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) SpeedBlitz Blues
North Shore Cricket Club lived their childhood dreams by playing at the SCG in a Twenty20 match against Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) SpeedBlitz Blues. They were confident going into the match and wound up 7-105 from their 20 overs, chasing Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) SpeedBlitz Blues who had scored 4-158. It was hard to tell which team enjoyed it more as both Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) SpeedBlitz Blues and North Shore were very vocal after the match.
Mark Lumley the president of North Shore Cricket Club said “It truly is a chance of a lifetime and something that we will never forget.”
Training session against Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) SpeedBlitz Blues
Comboyne, a small dairy town of 500 people west of Port Macquarie, won a training session against Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) SpeedBlitz Blues on the SCG turf. The winners said they thought it was a dream come true when they found out they were going to meet their idols. There was nervous excitement as they watched Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) SpeedBlitz Blues finish their own training session. After being introduced to the team, Comboyne were ready to take the field.
After the match there was a BBQ where Comboyne mixed with the likes of Usman Khawaja, Stephen O’Keefe and Phil Hughes.
Peachy from Comboyne said “It’s not my fault we got lost getting here (to SCG). I haven’t been to Sydney for over 30 years! (last time I was here they didn't even have a tunnel under the harbour!)"
