2009 SpeedBlitz Newcastle Cricket Expo

RTA SpeedBlitz Newcastle Expo a big hit with cricket fans

Over 5000 cricket fans took part in the RTA SpeedBlitz Expo at the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield match between NSW and Tasmania at the Newcastle No.1 Sports Ground on Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February.

It is the second time the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues has hosted the road safety expo during the 2009 domestic season in a bid to encourage cricket fans to slow down and stick to the speed limit. The first expo was held at ANZ Stadium on Monday 12 January.

The NSW cricket team is now in its seventh year of sponsorship with the RTA and is dedicated to helping reduce the road toll.

The expo was held inside the grounds and offered a number of interactive activities to educate the public about road safety including speed control exercises and bowling competitions.

As always, the two identical crashed cars - one at 60kmh and one at 100kmh - attracted plenty of attention and really helped illustrate the dangers of speeding.

These are some of the shots from around the ground:
