Speeding is the biggest killer on NSW roads.
An average of almost 200 people die and 4000 people are injured on NSW roads every year as the result of a speeding related crash.
The NSW Centre for Road Safety launched the Slow Down Roadshow to target speeding and to help reduce the loss of life on our roads.
The roadshow travels around the state educating the community about the consequences of speeding.
It features a graphic display of two identical cars crashed at different speeds – one at 60kmh and one at 100kmh – to visually highlight the impacts of speeding. If you crash a car at 100kmh you will not survive.
Locations
The Slow Down Road Show was launched at Macarthur Square, Campbelltown in September 2008 and has since travelled to many shopping centres and events across the State.
The NSW Centre for Road Safety has partnered with Lend Lease, Westfield, AMP and Centro shopping centres as the setting for the display in local communities. For more information call 13 22 13.
Road Safety Ambassador Michelle Amess
The roadshow also features a powerful road safety video featuring RTA Road Safety Ambassador Michelle Amess who lost her two teenage sons in a high speed crash in Morpeth in 2005. Michelle shares her own heartbreaking story in the hope of saving other young lives.
