Road environment safety

Road environment safety is the term used to describe safety that relates specifically to road design, traffic management, the roadway and its adjoining surroundings and environmental conditions.

The RTA and local government can reduce crashes and casualties by providing a safer road environment through improvements in the design, construction and development of the road network, and in the management of the traffic it carries.

Road environment safety publications

The RTA has developed a series of publications to provide road safety practitioners and others with instructions and/or guidance on the way in which road environment safety issues are to be addressed.

These publications are provided on-line to offer ease of access for practitioners and other interested parties, including engineers, local governments and consultants. They are published as required when issues affecting road environment safety are identified.
