Mount Victoria to Lithgow - upgrade of the Great Western Highway

Safety improvements

What's happening now?

Safety works

Top curve of Victoria Pass

Work on the top curve of Victoria Pass began on  31 October 2011. The work involves widening of the existing roadway and installing a concrete median barrier to improve safety on the top curve.

Following feedback from the community the proposal to close the median at Mitchells Lookout has been reconsidered and the design now includes a right turn bay for traffic to turn right into the lookout safely.

Work is expected to take nine months, weather permitting. Work will be carried out from 7am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays and from 7am to 1pm Saturdays.  All work will cease on 22 December 2011 and resume on 9 January 2012.

Bottom curve of Victoria Pass

Safety works on the bottom curve of Victoria Pass were completed in April 2011.

The work included widening of the roadway and installing a concrete median barrier to improve safety.

Guardrail works

Guardrail replacement work between the bottom and top curve of Victoria Pass was completed in July 2011.
