Safety works

Work on the top curve of Victoria Pass began  on 31 October 2011.  Work on the bottom curve was completed in April 2011 and guardrail replacement work was completed in July 2011.

Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) held road safety workshops at Hartley and Mount Victoria on 29 June 2011.  The presentation and meeting notes are available from the documents listed below.

A series of options to improve road safety in Mount Victoria were presented for community consideration. The options were developed in response to issues identified through community consultation and a road safety review conducted on the Great Western Highway between Mount Victoria and Lithgow in 2010. The review is part of the $30 million safety improvements package around Victoria Pass and the township of Mount Victoria jointly announced by the NSW and Australian governments in May 2010.

The feedback received at the meeting on 29 June will be considered in the Mount Victoria Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Works Report, scheduled to be finalised later in 2011.

In response to feedback received at the recent community workshops, the proposal to close right turning access into and out of Mitchells Lookout has been reconsidered. The design now includes a right turn bay for traffic to turn right into the lookout safely.

Road Safety Review

A road safety review was conducted on the Great Western Highway between Mount Victoria and Lithgow in 2010.

As part of the review, Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) held road safety workshops in June 2010 which provided the opportunity for Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) and community to discuss local knowledge about road safety issues along the Great Western Highway.
