Safety improvements North Lambton

Roads and Maritime Services is undertaking safety improvements on Newcastle Road near Albert Street, North Lambton as part of the NSW Government's Road Toll Response Program.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is installing pedestrian fencing on Newcastle Road near Albert Street, in response to pedestrian crashes that occurred at this location.

RMS consulted with the community about the safety improvements in late 2011.

Background

Between June 2007 and August 2010 two pedestrians were hit by a car while crossing Newcastle Road near Albert Street.  Newcastle Road at this intersection has a lot of traffic and there is a crest that reduces the sight line between pedestrians and oncoming traffic.

Features

The safety improvements include installing 180 metres of white pedestrian fencing on Newcastle Road near Albert Street, North Lambton.

The fencing will direct pedestrians away from crossing to the west of the crest where the sight line to approaching vehicles is limited.

The fencing will be the same as that recently installed on Newcastle Road at Hamilton North.
Work is expected to be completed in April 2012, weather permitting.
