Construction
This $1.7 billion project involves the construction of a four-lane freeway link between the F3 Freeway near Seahampton, and the New England Highway, west of Branxton. This is the largest infrastructure project currently underway in NSW and is scheduled to be open to traffic at the end of 2013, weather permitting.
Eastern Section: F3 to Kurri Kurri
The new four-lane expressway is being constructed under two contracts, with the eastern section (F3 Freeway to Kurri Kurri) being built by the Hunter Expressway Alliance, covering a distance of 13 kilometres.
The Hunter Expressway Alliance, which is building the eastern section, is currently doing significant work to build the Newcastle interchange at the F3 Freeway, the Buchanan interchange and the high bridges through Sugarloaf Range.

Major construction in the western section of the project (from Kurri Kurri to Branxton) started in April this year. Abigroup has achieved a number of significant milestones.
Approximately 3 million cubic metres of material will be moved in the western section of the Hunter Expressway as part of Abigroup's earthworks. More than half of the bulk earthworks have been completed in the western section.
