Background
Roads and Maritime Services is upgrading six intersections between the F3 Freeway at Seahampton and Newcastle. This project is funded by the NSW Government.
Construction is now underway at three intersections. We are delivering these upgrades as traffic on parts of the Hunter road network is expected to redistribute when the Hunter Expressway is completed in 2013.
The six intersections were selected after a study to identify and prioritise future upgrade works and community consultation. More information on the study is available from the community update, February 2011.

Environmental management
We have prepared two environmental impact assessments to assess and identify a range of measures to minimise potential environmental effects during and after construction of the upgrades. These include:
- Managing dust, water quality and construction traffic.
- Minimising adverse effects on heritage and flora and fauna.
- Addressing issues of local amenity, such as visual character, air and noise.
A review of environmental factors was finalised in September 2011 and a supplementary review of environmental factors was finalised in November 2011. Both files are available for your information.
Informing the community
Letters will be distributed to residents nearby the works detailing the type, timing and proposed duration of works. Site preparations will be undertaken initially and will include some night work. Notices will be given to nearby residents prior to any night work or temporary obstruction to private access.
Regular status updates will be provided on this website.
