Werrington Arterial Road, Claremont Meadows
(between the M4 Motorway and the Great Western Highway)
Werrington Arterial Road is a proposed arterial road along Kent Road/Gipps Street and Werrington Road/Christie Street to link the M4 Motorway at Claremont Meadows with the Castlereagh Freeway corridor in the vicinity of Marsden Park. This is a long term plan for Sydney's west as the area develops in the future.
Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) are planning for Stage 1 of the proposal which includes road widening to four lanes of Kent Road/Gipps Street corridor between the M4 Motorway and Sunflower Drive North with east facing ramps on the M4 Motorway. A map showing the proposal is attached.
PROJECT FEATURES
Stage 1 of Werrington Arterial Road is being planned to:
- Improve access for urban development in Claremont Meadows and near the University of Western Sydney's Werrington/Kingswood Campus.
- Reduce traffic congestion on the sections of The Northern Road/Parker Street to the west and Mamre Road to the east that connect with the M4 Motorway.
- Meet the projected increase in traffic demand to the year 2026.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Contracts have been awarded to prepare the concept design and to undertake environmental impact assessment for Stage 1.
The concept design and the environmental impact assessment are expected to be displayed in the second half of 2012 for community comments.
