Background
The Richmond Road corridor is a 23.5 kilometre route linking Blacktown and Richmond. It functions as an arterial road linking major urban and rural areas. Richmond Road also passes through the North West Growth Centre, a 10,000 hectare region identified by the NSW Government for new homes and employment areas to accommodate some 200,000 people over the next 25 to 30 years.

In November 2006 the NSW Government announced a program to upgrade Richmond Road.
Roads and Maritime Services has improved key intersections along Richmond Road, including:
- Richmond Road and St Marys Road completed 1 May 2009.
- Richmond Road and the intersections of Knox Road and Quakers Hill Parkway completed 29 June 2009.
Investigations are currently underway for improvements to:
- Richmond Road / Northern Road intersection.
