Road widening on Powers Road at Seven Hills
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is widening Powers Road from Boden Road to Old Windsor Road, Seven Hills.
Background
This project is part of the NSW Government's $100 million Pinch Point program. The program is to reduce traffic delays and manage congestion Sydney's main roads, particularly during week day peak periods, as well as improve road safety for all road users. Old Windsor Road is one of 23 road corridors currently requiring projects to improve traffic flow and reduce peak hour delays.
In 2010 Roads and Maritime Services extended the right turn lanes from Old Windsor Road into Powers Road as part of the Pinch Point program. We are now widening Powers Road for approximately 100 metres to provide an additional eastbound lane on Powers Road, approaching Old Windsor Road.
This will mean that instead of the existing dedicated left turn lane and shared lane for through and right turning traffic, we will widen the roadway to provide a:
- left turn lane
- through lane
- right turn lane.
The community was invited to comment on the proposal. The community issues report is available on the project documents page.
Features
Work includes:
- Relocating public utilities.
- Constructing the road, footpath and retaining wall.
- Adjusting the kerbs and gutters.
- Adjusting the traffic signals and installing signs.
- Installing new landscaping.
- Landscaping, tree removal, resurfacing and line marking.
Benefits
The project will improve the capacity of the intersection at Powers Road and Old Windsor Road. This will reduce traffic delays and congestion by reducing the queue lengths for traffic approaching Old Windsor Road, which is often blocked by extensive queuing during peak traffic periods.
