Old Wallgrove Road (Roberts Road - M7), Eastern Creek

The NSW Government's Western Sydney Employment Area (WSEA) consists of more than 2,200 hectares of employment land that is expected to accommodate about 40,000 jobs. Old Wallgrove Road which forms an integral part of the road network in WSEA needs to be widened and upgraded to meet the traffic demand projected to be generated from the Western Sydney employment hub. It is proposed to upgrade and widen Old Wallgrove Road east of Roberts Road and on completion this road would connect the new Erskine Park Link Road with the M7 Motorway.

ABOUT THE WESTERN SYDNEY EMPLOYMENT AREA

The Western Sydney Employment Area is located south-west of the M4/ M7 Motorway interchange. The area provides well-located, accessible and diverse employment lands to support manufacturing, transport and logistics activities. The area comprises existing land at Greystanes, Huntingwood, Eastern Creek and Erskine Park, as well as newly released land at Ropes Creek and Horsley Park.

A map showing the Western Sydney Employment Area is available here. Further information about WSEA can be found on the Department of Planning and Infrastructure's web site.

PROJECT FEATURES

Widening and upgrading Old Wallgrove Road  will:

  • Provide a vital connection from Erskine Park Link Road, which is currently being constructed, to the M7 and M4 Motorways.
  • Support the Western Sydney Employment Area as a significant employment hub.
  • Provide a new shared cycle/pedestrian path and a connection to the M7 cycleway.
  • Reduce transport costs for industry located in the Western Sydney Employment Area.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The design and environmental assessment works are in progress.

It is proposed to display the review of environmental factors for comment in the second half of 2012.

Commencement of construction would depend on project approval being granted following the environmental assessment process and further project funding being secured.
