Realignment of lanes on the M4 Motorway at Silverwater/Auburn

In 2010, the M4 Motorway was returned to public ownership from Statewide Roads (the previous operator of the motorway). As part of the ownership handover, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) removed the toll collection booths and associated above ground structures.

RMS is undertaking rehabilitation and alignment straightening works on approximately one kilometre length of the M4 Motorway between James Ruse Drive ramps, Rosehill and Silverwater Road ramps, Silverwater in order to improve traffic flow through the former Toll Plaza site at Silverwater/Auburn.
The works are proposed to improve traffic flow, road amenity and safety on one of Sydney's main arterial roads and would involve the realignment of four westbound lanes and three eastbound lanes. This would also allow for the introduction of 90km/h speed limit through the project site to be consistent with the motorway speed limit.

What is happening now?

To minimise traffic disruptions, work is mainly being undertaken outside peak travel times.

Construction involves concreting, asphalting and line marking. Despite recent persistent wet weather, the lanes have been straightened in both directions and all ancillary works are expected to be completed by May 2012, weather permitting.

Please visit the Live Traffic NSW webpage for up-to-date traffic information including any changes to traffic conditions or delays on the M4 Motorway.

Funding

The NSW Government has provided project funding of $5 million from Roads and Maritime Services' traffic management program for the 2011/12 financial year.
