Spit/Military roads corridor - traffic flow improvement projects
The Spit/Military roads corridor is part of the main arterial route between the northern beaches residential areas of Sydney and the Sydney CBD. It is used by up to 78,000 vehicles daily, including extensive use by buses moving up to 60,000 passengers between the northern beaches, Mosman and the city.
The NSW Government has identified this corridor for the introduction of bus priority measures as a part of its long-term plan.
Background
In May 2007 the NSW Government formed a working group to investigate initiatives to improve traffic flow in the Spit/Military roads corridor, between Balgowlah and Neutral Bay.
A report (August 2008) recommended a number of initiatives, for consideration by the NSW Government. Please note this report has now been superseded. To view current initiatives, please click on the proposal as noted below on the "schedule of works on the Spit/Military roads corridor" map.
In August 2008 the NSW Government committed $48 million to improve traffic flow on Spit/Military roads.
These initiatives are intended to benefit all road users along the corridor in this area, including bus commuters. The initiatives are primarily targeted towards improving commuter peak travel times, however, buses will also benefit during the off-peak periods.
