Mona Vale Road Upgrade between McCarrs Creek Road, Terrey Hills and Powder Works Road, Ingleside

Thank you for your community feedback

Thank you to all the members of the community who submitted feedback online. This feedback is an important part of the preliminary investigation work and it will help guide the upgrade in areas such as public transport, pedestrian and cycle connectivity and the safety of wildlife.

The Community Consultation Summary Report is available for view or download on the project documents page on the left hand menu. This report presents a range of feedback from the community and these issues will be considered by the project team, in the next stages of the project development.

Congestion on Mona Vale Road

Background

Mona Vale Road is an important transport link which connects Mona Vale to Homebush and Hurstville, as well as to critical roads such as Ryde Road, Lane Cove Road, Pacific Highway, Homebush Bay Drive, Centenary Drive, Roberts Road, King Georges Road and the Princes Highway.

In 2009, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) published the Mona Vale to Macquarie Park Corridor Strategy, a 25 year framework for the management of the corridor to address road safety, transport efficiency and asset maintenance issues.

One of the priorities identified in the corridor strategy was to enhance capacity and efficiency for vehicles in the single lane sections of Mona Vale Road between McCarrs Creek Road, Terrey Hills and Powder Works Road, Ingleside.

The Mona Vale To Macquarie Park Corridor Strategy is available for viewing or downloading on the Mona Vale to Macquarie Park Corridor Strategy page.

Preliminary objective

  • An upgrade from one lane in each direction to a two lane divided road with central median between McCarrs Creek Road, Terrey Hills and Powder Works Road, Ingleside.

Benefits of the upgrade

  • Improved road safety for all road users.
  • Enhanced efficiency of the road network.

What has happened?

In May 2011 Rob Stokes, the Local Member for Pittwater, announced that RMS would begin preliminary works for a proposal to upgrade Mona Vale Road. The media release is available on the project documents page.

RMS has now completed strategic investigations involving:

  • Initial engineering survey of the corridor.
  • Preliminary environmental investigations, including ecology and heritage studies.

This important preliminary work will help RMS examine ways to reduce congestion and improve road safety to benefit local residents, businesses, motorists and the greater community.

Community involvement

RMS is committed to addressing the needs and concerns of the community during the planning process, from the development of preliminary corridor options to the refinement of a preferred option.

As part of the preliminary investigations RMS will take into consideration community concerns such as public transport, pedestrian and cycle connectivity and the safety of wildlife.

During these processes RMS will keep the community both involved and informed by providing project updates and timeframes through community updates, displays, information sessions and through web based tools.

What's happening now?

RMS has prepared the Community Consultation Summary Report based on the community feedback received in late 2011.

The Community Consultation Summary Report is available for view or download on the project documents page.

During the first half of 2012, the project team will further investigate the complex environmental constraints within the project area to develop strategic design options. Many of these constraints were highlighted by the community during consultations in 2011. RMS will work with National Parks and Wildlife Service, local councils and the community throughout the project's development.

It is anticipated that more information on the project will be available in the second half of 2012, with more opportunities for the community to provide input into the project.
