F3 Freeway and Pacific Highway interchange upgrade, Wahroonga
Roads and Maritime Services is working to widen the F3 southbound off ramp and extend the dual lanes of the northbound on ramp at the Pacific Highway, Wahroonga.
BACKGROUND
This project is part of the NSW Government's $100 million Pinch Point Program. The program is to reduce delays and manage congestion on Sydney's main roads, particularly during week day peak periods, as well as improve road safety for all road users. Pacific Highway is one of 23 road corridors currently requiring projects to improve traffic flow and reduce peak hour delays.
Long queues extend back to the F3 for southbound vehicles exiting the F3 on the off ramp at the Pacific Highway, particularly during the morning peak period.
In the afternoon peak period, northbound traffic merging to the F3 queues back to and across the Pacific Highway intersection, causing delays on the Pacific Highway. Roads and Maritime Services is widening the southbound off ramp and extending the dual lanes of the northbound on ramp. This will provide more capacity for traffic to enter and exit the F3.
The community were invited to comment on the proposal. Landscaping plans, noise assessment and the community issues report detailing community concerns are available on the project documents page.
FEATURES
Features of the project are:
- Widening the off ramp by 3–5 metres on the eastern side and reducing the size of the traffic island to provide a third left turn lane from the F3 to the Pacific Highway.
- Extending the length of the two merge lanes of the northbound on ramp by 60 metres by widening on the western side.
- Clearing and replacing landscaping in order to construct a retaining wall for the southbound off ramp.
- Extensive replacement and new landscaping.
- Improving pedestrian ramps, pavement markings, and lighting.
- Improving the road surface.
- Adjusting public utilities such as drainage and lighting.
BENEFITS
- Reduced traffic delays for traffic entering and exiting the F3 at the Pacific Highway, Wahroonga.
- Improved traffic flow on the F3 and the Pacific Highway, Wahroonga.
- Improved road safety by reducing queues on the southbound off ramp obstructing 80km per hour traffic on the F3.
- Safety improvements through road resurfacing.
- Improved visual amenity with urban design treatments for feature lighting, paving and retaining wall.
- Increased vegetation with existing trees retained wherever possible and significant replacement and supplementary planting of native species.
