Castle Hill Main Street Project - upgrading Old Northern Road, Castle Hill

The Hills Shire Council is undertaking works to transform Castle Hill's main street (CBD) into a vibrant and attractive town centre, with new paving, lighting, street tree planting and the creation of alfresco dining areas.

Beautification works along the Old Northern Road between Showground Road and Crane Road were completed in the first half of 2011.

The Castle Hill Main Street Project is now entering the next phase with the construction of footpaths along Old Northern Road between Showground Road and Cecil Avenue set to commence in the coming weeks. The footpath construction work will occur in three separate stages.

Approximately 29,000 vehicles per day use Old Northern Road near the intersection with Showground Road at Castle Hill.

This work is scheduled to commence late May 2011 (weather permitting).

To enable construction and to ensure worker safety, the section of road adjacent to the work area will be partially closed during construction.  Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction along the effected section of Old Northern Road for the majority of the works.

Roads will remain open through the town centre for those visiting the main street shopping precinct but some restrictions of traffic movements will occur.

Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) will continue to assist Council to deliver it's main street project.  As part of this process Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) will monitor traffic throughout the works area, and adjust traffic signal phasing to minimise traffic disruption and manage potential congestion. For motorists travelling to locations north or south of the town centre, signage will advise motorists to avoid the works area by using the Eastern or Western Ring Roads.
