Alfords Point Bridge duplication

In February 2007, Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) commenced work to duplicate Alfords Point Bridge over the Georges River between Alfords Point and Padstow Heights.

The duplication project was completed and opened to traffic on 21 August 2008 and consists of two parallel bridges, each with two lanes plus a breakdown lane. The existing bridge carries northbound traffic and the new bridge carries southbound traffic.

This project was fully funded by the NSW Government.

Benefits of the Alfords Point bridge duplication

  • The removal of the tidal flow arrangements on the original Alfords Point Bridge during the morning and evening peak periods.
  • Improved road safety and traffic flow in both directions.
  • Provision of a shared pedestrian/cyclist path.
