Tree removal works, Federal Highway
During September 2011 Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) will remove hazardous poplar trees on the Federal Highway at Wollogorang to improve safety for all road users.
An arborist report was commissioned, which recommends of the 143 trees, 38 be removed and 22 pruned. Healthy trees which are not threatening road safety will remain.
The trees to be removed pose a significant crash risk for vehicles as they are within the clear zone. A number of trees are also dropping dead wood on the road and some collapsing onto the Highway.
Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) has been working with the Remembrance Driveway Committee in planning for this work. To off-set the removal of these trees a long-term strategic plan for re-planting is being developed with key stakeholders.
The project is scheduled to start in early September 2011, and is expected to take about three weeks to complete.
