On 15 November 2010, the Australian Defence Force Memorial Plantation was dedicated on Remembrance Driveway - Sydney to Canberra. The dedication was held at Mount Annan Botanic Garden in the presence of Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia and His Excellency Mr Michael Bryce AM AE.
The Australian Defence Force Memorial Plantation is located along the Remembrance Driveway between the Sir Roden Cutler VC Memorial Interchange at Prestons and the Mount Annan Botanic Garden. The length of the plantation is 15.5 kilometres including median and roadside areas. The Memorial recognises all Australian Defence Force personnel who have served and will serve in various theatres of conflict, including peace keeping missions following the Vietnam era.
In conjunction with the widening of the Hume Highway south of the Sir Roden Cutler VC Interchange, Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) is planting 45,000 native trees and shrubs. This section of the Highway forms part of the Remembrance Driveway. Two memorial walls have been constructed on the verges of the northbound and southbound roadway to identify the plantation.
