Project Manager's update - 25 November 2011
Dear Stakeholder
This is the final update about the Hampden Bridge Restoration Project.
The community celebration to mark the completion of the project was held on Sunday 16 October. It was a successful occasion enjoyed by around 200 residents and the Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) team. Thank you to the many people involved in organising the event.
There were some minor aspects of the restoration project that were not finished in time for the celebration. This included permanently bolting down the large timber kerbs on the deck of the bridge as well as some painting work underneath the deck in the structure. This remaining work has been underway in recent weeks with the bridge open to traffic. The work is now finished.
As previously advised the new bridge timbers will weather and season over the summer months. This will result in a need to re-tighten all the boltwork to account for this weathering. Once the boltwork has been re-tightened, another bitumen seal will be sprayed onto the surface of the deck.
This further work, tightening and sealing the deck, is expected to take around two weeks. Most of this work will be completed with traffic using the bridge and it is expected to cause minimal inconvenience to motorists and the community.
More information will be provided in 2012 when proposed dates are confirmed.
A very Merry Christmas from all the team.
