Pedestrian safety improvements on Lake Entrance Road at Oak Flats

In July 2011, Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) consulted with the community about further improving pedestrian road safety on Lake Entrance Road at Minga Avenue, Oak Flats.

The pedestrian improvements involved installation of pedestrian activated traffic lights and pedestrian fencing on Lake Entrance Road at Minga Avenue. This work was completed in October 2011. please click on the link to see the media release.

The upgrade included:

  • Installation of a pedestrian activated traffic light, in the eastbound direction on Lake Entrance Road at Minga Avenue. This provides a more controlled and safer crossing point for pedestrians crossing Lake Entrance Road. These lights will be activated on demand by pedestrians. Traffic lights were already in operation for westbound traffic on Lake Entrance Road at this location.
  • Installation of bicycle crossing lights at the existing traffic lights on Minga Avenue.
  • Installation of approximately 30 metres of pedestrian fencing on the existing concrete median on Lake Entrance Road to extend the previously installed fencing near Minga Avenue, completed in June 2010.
  • Installation of approximately 55 metres of pedestrian fencing on the northern side of Lake Entrance Road (across from Minga Avenue) to guide pedestrians to use the new pedestrian traffic lights.
