Heavy vehicle rest area on the Hume Highway at Pheasants Nest
The Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) has constructed a formalised heavy vehicle rest area at the existing Pheasants Nest service centre on the Hume Highway (northbound).
The heavy vehicle rest area was officially opened to traffic on 19 November 2010.
Background
In May 2009, the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government and NSW Minister for Roads announced there will be "more truckie rest stops on the way in the NSW".
The Australian and NSW governments jointly funded construction of this new heavy vehicle rest area at Pheasants Nest on the Hume Highway, for northbound drivers, at the existing service centre.
This facility will assist in managing fatigue and improving road.
Features:
- 24 spaces for B-double truck parking.
- Night lighting.
- A walkway and pedestrian fence for safety.
- A covered area with table and benches.
The new parking facility provides an area for heavy vehicle drivers to stop for a rest and a meal and refreshments, sleep and use the existing facilities at the service centre.
