Kirribilli - Ennis Road development

Ennis Road Kirribilli

March 2012 update

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) submitted the plans to upgrade the office and retail tenancies along Ennis Road, Kirribilli to North Sydney Council, on 28 February 2012. The alterations to the roadway and Milsons Point Railway Station Concourse will be considered by RMS with an assessment prepared under the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act, 1979.

Planning of this work commenced in October 2010. Since that time we have consulted widely with people who might be affected by this proposal. The plans propose changes that will enhance the streetscape along Ennis Road and improve access to the station for commuters.

RMS appreciates the feedback it received from Kirribilli residents, commuters and business people about the project. Since the beginning of 2011, comments have come through our project information lines, information sessions, our two Kirribilli Market information stalls as well as meetings with groups and individuals interested in the project. These comments have been considered when developing our proposal.

WHAT YOU SAID TO ROADS AND MARITIME SERVICES ABOUT THE PROPOSAL

There was a range of views about each part of the project; however, all respondents agreed that:

On Milsons Point railway station concourse:

  • An upgrade of the walkway through the station, or concourse, should be completed as soon as possible.
  • Improving the pedestrian circulation through ticket gates would make travel more attractive.
  • More direct access to the lift on the concourse to the railway station would contribute to more convenient and safer use of the lift.
  • Improving the physical access to the concourse is a priority.

On the Ennis Road buildings and streetscape:

  • Maintenance of the heritage character and assets is a priority.
  • An upgrade of the footpaths on Ennis Road should be completed as soon as possible.
  • Placement of seating, shade trees and more shops or offices along Ennis Road would make it a more attractive place for residents.
