Pacific Highway Upgrade

Safety improvement works - 2003 to 2014

The following safety improvement works have been completed on the Pacific Highway between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.

Plummers Lane Corner

Plummers Lane Corner project safety improvements include:

  • Central wire rope safety barrier within a 2 metre painted median.
  • 2.5 metre wide shoulders.
  • 3.5 metre wide traffic lane.
  • Pavement reshaping and resurfacing.
  • Development of options to allow alternative access for affected residents.

These safety improvement works were completed in February 2012.

Martells Road widening

Safety improvements works for this section include:

  • Road widening to include 2 metre shoulders and 3.5 metre lane width.
  • Intersection improvements to Martells Road junction to provide a sheltered right turn lane for southbound traffic.

These safety improvement works were completed in September 2011.

Clybucca Roadhouse/Goulds Lane access

Clybucca Roadhouse/Goulds Lane access improvements including:

  • Provision of a left turn lane at Goulds Lane.
  • The provision of a traffic barrier on Old Mill Lane at the intersection of Old Mill Lane and the Pacific Highway. Local traffic will be able to access the highway via the improved Goulds Lane junction.
  • Provision of an acceleration lane to the north from the roadhouse parking area to join on to the existing northbound overtaking lane.

These safety improvement works were completed in 2010.

Bourkes Lane to Ballards Road

Safety improvement works for this section of highway north, of Kempsey. Works were staged in three sections:

Section1 - Bourkes Lane to Oyster Creek

  • Minor vegetation clearing to improve sight distance.
  • Widening and sealing shoulders from 1.5 metres to 2 metres.

Section 2 - Oyster Creek to McGraths Creek

  • Sections of shoulder widening and sealing.
  • Southbound overtaking lane adjustments to improved merge conditions.
  • Pavement resealing and line marking.
  • Minor vegetation clearing to improve stopping sight distance.

Section 3 - McGraths Creek to Ballards Road

  • Pavement resealing to remove old line marking.
  • Crack sealing treatments to improve delineation.
  • New line marking.
  • Minor vegetation clearing to improve stopping sight distance.

These safety improvements works were completed in June 2008.

Dalhousie Creek - 720 metre length.

Safety improvements to this section of the highway south of Hungry Head turn off include:

  • Widening existing traffic lanes to 3.5 metres.
  • Providing 2 metre wide shoulders.
  • Providing a traffic barrier on Old Mill Lane at the intersection of Old Mill Lane and the Pacific Highway. Local traffic will be able to access the highway via the improved Gould's Lane junction.
  • Installing a wire rope safety barrier along southbound lane to provide protection from large trees within the clear zone.

These safety improvements were completed in June 2007.
