The combined January/February 2013 (PDF, 4.73MB) and the March 2013 (PDF, 5.08MB reports on progress to complete the upgrading of the Pacific Highway to a four-lane divided road is now available.

Infrastructure Australia submission

On 11 November 2011, the NSW Government made a submission to Infrastructure Australia in response to a call for projects for assessment and evaluation for the national infrastructure pipeline and possible budget considerations.

The Pacific Highway was one of three key priority projects put forward by NSW in the submission. Read more >>


The Pacific Highway upgrade

The Pacific Highway upgrade is one of the largest road infrastructure projects in NSW.

Upgrading new sections and undertaking safety improvements to the existing highway have brought major improvements to road conditions.

These improvements will support regional development and provide:

  • Safer travel.
  • Reduced travel times with improved transport efficiency.
  • More consistent and reliable travel.
  • Improved amenity for local communities

General Manager Pacific Highway upgrade

Bob Higgins

Since the late 1980’s, Bob Higgins has been working for road agencies in Queensland and NSW on the upgrading of almost 800 kilometres of the Pacific Highway from Newcastle to the southern outskirts of Brisbane. With 12 years previously invested working on the highway north of the border in Queensland, Bob has spent the last ten years in NSW, managing the Pacific Highway upgrade, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Australia.

In his role as General Manager Pacific Highway, Bob leads a number of multi-disciplined teams to develop and deliver major upgrade projects that travel through the sensitive natural environment and rapidly expanding human environments on the North Coast of NSW.
