Environmental management of erosion and sedimentation

Erosion and sedimentation control measures are implemented to reduce the effects construction activities may have on the environment.

Examples of these control measures are:

  • Hydro mulching and native seeding.
  • Sedimentation basins.
  • Sediment fencing.
  • Drains.
  • Mulch filtering.
  • Early completion of permanent control measures.

On the Yelgun to Chinderah project, sandbag and jute mesh sediment controls plus a 'cover crop' were used to reduce the potential for soil erosion Catch drainage and diversion drains were used on the Lyons Road to Englands Road upgrade project to reduce the possible erosion of nearby areas A sediment fence minimises sediment that is carried by water from moving offsite where it could adversely impact adjacent areas
