Banora Point Construction
Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) has formed an alliance with Abigroup Contractors, Seymour Whyte Constructions and SMEC to design and construct the Banora Point upgrade.
What has happened during April 2012?
Earthworks in April 2012:
- Ongoing local road earthworks at Barney’s Point east including u-turn bay construction.
- Ongoing pavement, kerb and drainage installation at Barneys Point west.
- Ongoing noise wall and pavement installation on the Pacific Highway northbound at the southern interchange.
- Ongoing pavement works at the Terranora Road intersection, including closure of the right hand turn southbound.
- Ongoing pavement and retaining wall works along Sexton Hill northbound.
- Commencement of pavement, landscaping and barrier installation at Short Street intersection east northbound and southbound, Pioneer Parade east and old Pacific Highway.
- Completion of traffic barrier and pavement works in the main cutting southbound.
- Continuing noise wall, pavement and traffic barrier installation in the main cutting northbound.
- Ongoing landscaping and heritage terrace reinstatement in the southern valley.
- Continuing project wide landscaping at Laura Street and Short Street.
- Works to wetlands on the eastern side of the site.
- Construction of pavement and shared user paths at Short Street north.
- Traffic signal installation at new Darlington Drive intersection.
- Pavement works on new highway off ramp to Minjungbal Drive.
- Completion of pavement works on the mainline northbound.
- Installation of pavements and lighting along northbound highway on ramp.
- Installation of 450 water main at the northern roundabout and new Minjungbal Drive underpass.
- Installation of street lighting and pavement at the new Minjungbal Drive underpass.
- Completion of pavement and landscaping works along Minjungbal Drive.
- Ongoing project wide erection of directional signage.
Bridgeworks in April 2012:
- Ongoing works on the Wilson Park land bridge.
- Ongoing retaining wall and barrier construction works at different locations on the project.
- Ongoing bridgeworks in various locations of the project.

Key construction activities during May 2012
Southern end of the project
- Building of noise walls from Barneys Point to the southern end of the viaduct.
- Ongoing road, kerb and drainage installation at Barney’s Point west
- Ongoing road surface work on the existing northbound Pacific Highway and Terranora intersection.
- Ongoing retaining wall work along the existing northbound Pacific Highway
- Start of road surfacing, landscaping and barrier installation at Short Street intersection northbound and southbound, Pioneer Parade east and Sexton Hill Drive (the old southbound Pacific Highway).
- Completion of local road earthwork’s at Barney’s Point east including building the u-turn bay.
- Completion of landscaping and heritage work in the southern valley.
Northern end of the project
- Demolition work at the temporary Darlington Drive underpass.
- Ongoing building of the northbound Darlington Drive off ramp.
- Ongoing building of road surface and shared user paths from Minjungbal Drive to Laura Street and Short Street.
- Ongoing building work on the Pacific Highway northbound.
- Completion of Minjungbal Drive intersection.
- Ongoing retaining wall work from the new northbound highway off ramp to Minjungbal Drive.
- Ongoing installation of directional signage
