Ballina bypass construction
Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) has formed an alliance with, Leighton Contractors, Maunsell AECOM, SMEC and Coffey Geotechnics to design and build the Ballina bypass.
What has happened during January and February 2012?
The following significant activities were completed across the project:
- Open the newly constructed northbound lanes of the Pacific Highway from Bruxner to Teven on Saturday 11 February.
- Move Tamarind Drive (old Pacific Highway) traffic onto a small bridge north of Deadman's Creek Road at Cumbalum and commence removal of temporary section of road on Saturday 18 February.
- Continued construction of the permanent roundabout on the eastern side of the Cumbalum interchange.
- Continued final pavement and sealing works for the new Bruxner Highway alignment.
- Continued Ballina Rest Area construction including commencing the site office demobilisation and relocation.
- Completed sealing and SMA works on the concrete pavement north of Cumbalum.
What is happening in March and April 2012
- Complete finishing works including signage installation, guard rail and wire rope, line marking and landscaping works on the new Bruxner Highway alignment and open to traffic.
- Continue preparation of the Ballina Rest Area ready for opening in mid 2012.
- Complete work on Bruxner Highway intersection including the removal of the southbound right turn once the new Bruxner Highway off the Teven interchange is opened.
- Continue enabling works including wick drain works and subsequent placement of surcharge material adjacent to the newly constructed bridge over Emigrant Creek South adjacent to the intersections of the Bruxner and Pacific Highways.
