Work on this final stage of the Woodford to Hazelbrook upgrade of the highway began in March 2010.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED?

• Traffic has been switched on to the new westbound carriageway between Station Street and Park Road, Woodford and construction of the new eastbound carriageway has begun.
• The new pedestrian bridge has opened and the pedestrian crossing of the highway at Winbourne Road, Hazelbrook has been closed.
• Retaining walls east of Park Road, Woodford and east of Winbourne Road, Hazelbrook have been completed.
• Beechmount Avenue, Hazelbrook has been temporarily closed at the highway, so that retaining walls and a new drop off point/car park for Hazelbrook Public School can be built.
• Woodbury Street, Woodford has been permanently closed at the highway and work has begun on the service road.

WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW?

The NSW Government has been in discussions with Reed Constructions Australia since last month (February 2012) when Reed indicated it was facing financial difficulties. Further details are available in the Media Release from the NSW Minister for Finance and Services in relation to Reed Constructions Australia.

The outcome of the discussions will determine if Reed is able to complete the work on the project. In the event that Reed is unable to fulfil its contractual obligations, RMS will ensure the remaining work will be carried out by other experienced contractors, with a preference given to using current subcontractors working with Reed, where possible.

RMS will ensure the Woodford to Hazelbrook project is completed as early as possible, while ensuring public funds are spent responsibly.
