Overview
Roads and Maritime Services, in consultation with Blue Mountains City Council and the local community, assessed a number of options including a bypass of the town.
Following community consultation about the options for Lawson, Roads and Maritime Services developed a preferred plan. A review of environmental factors for stage one of the upgrade, from Bass Street to Ridge Street, documented its impacts. These documents were displayed for community comment in February and March 2005. Submissions to the review were considered before deciding whether to proceed. Stage one was determined on 20 July 2006 and information on changes, improvements and/or modifications to the proposal was provided to the community.
In December 2006 Roads and Maritime Services released details of the second stage, Ferguson Avenue to Bass Street, which involved realigning 600 metres of the main western railway line.
A review of environmental factors was displayed for public comment in June 2007. Nine submissions were received and the project was determined to proceed on 10 October 2007.
