Stage 1 Bass Street to Ridge Street at Lawson officially opened to traffic on 13 November 2010.
Stage 2 - Ferguson Avenue, Hazelbrook to Bass Street, Lawson. Construction work commenced in June 2010 and is progressing well.
Completion of the project is expected in late 2012, weather permitting.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED?
Stage 1
- Opened to traffic in November 2010.
- Completion of the shopping precinct car park, including a one way service road and 28 parking spaces and landscaping.
- Completion of highway and urban design work from Orient to Ridge streets.
Stage 2
- Utility work between Queens Road, Lawson and Ferguson Avenue, Hazelbrook.
- Piling and abutment work for the new rail overbridge near Queens Road.
- Construction of retaining walls along Badgery Crescent and the Great Western Highway.
- Track possession work in May, August and October 2010.
- The closure of vehicle access from the highway to Kitchener and Bass streets (access is via Mary and Orient streets).
- Start of the second stage of bridge work, including placing girders and pouring the bridge deck.
- Start of the construction of the new westbound lanes between Ferguson Avenue and Sydney Rock and between Kitchener and Bass streets.
- Start of the rail movement work in preparation for rail commissioning in early 2012.
UPCOMING WORKS
Construction work scheduled for September 2011 - March 2012, weather permitting, includes:
- Road work in Somers Street, including the construction of retaining walls and road widening.
- Completion of the realignment of 600 metres of the main western railway line to the north of Sydney Rock.
- Construction of new eastbound lanes from Ferguson Avenue to Queens Road and from Kitchener to Bass streets.
- Completion of Kitchener Street road work, including construction of a cul de sac and parking area.
- Completion of Badgery Crescent road work, including a bus bay and a realigned intersection with Queens Road.
- Work for moving trains onto the new track and backfilling the old railway for the road works.
