Great Western Highway Upgrade

Community involvement

Community workshop

The upgrade of the Great Western Highway in the Blue Mountains has been developed with discussions with local councils, transport and road safety associations and community representatives.

Community involvement ensures effective planning and decision-making. It provides important information on Roads and Maritime Services road development and maintenance proposals and helps to identify relevant issues and possible community concerns.

Roads and Maritime Services works to create interest and awareness in options and proposals, to provide opportunities for the community to be involved in contributing to decisions that affect them.

Roads and Maritime Services seeks community involvement through a wide range of activities, such as community information evenings and workshops, community focus or liaison groups, media announcements, letterbox drops, site open days, advisory committees, newsletters and questionnaires.

Documents are placed on exhibition for public information and comment. Issues raised in submissions from the community are considered when making a decision on a project.

Roads and Maritime Services will continue to keep the local community informed on the status of the Great Western Highway upgrade with updated website information, community newsletters and local newspaper advertisements. Refer to 'project links' for specific project status and stages of community involvement.
