F3 Tuggerah interchange upgrade

The Tuggerah interchange is a major junction for vehicles travelling on the F3 Freeway to the southern parts of Wyong. Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) is planning an upgrade of the interchange to improve safety, ease congestion and provide capacity for future growth and development in the area.

Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) is planning to upgrade the ramp intersections of the interchange and provide a new entry ramp for traffic wishing to travel northbound on the F3 Freeway.

Significant queuing occurs, particularly in the afternoon peak, at this location due to the configuration of the ramps. This also causes safety concerns, and has an unacceptable rate of crashes.

Features and benefits of the proposal

  • A new roundabout at the southern entry/exit ramp intersection with Wyong Road.
  • New traffic lights at the northbound entry/exit ramp intersection with Wyong Road.
  • Providing a G loop to improve the efficiency of traffic movements from Wyong Road to travel northbound on the F3.
  • Providing a new southbound exit ramp arrangement to improve driver safety at Wyong Road.
  • Providing a formal commuter carpark.

Review of environmental factors

A review of environmental factors identified a range of measures to minimise potential environmental effects during and after construction of the Tuggerah Interchange upgrade.
The review of environmental factors is now approved.
