The Entrance Road upgrade - Terrigal Drive to Carlton Road, Erina

The NSW Government has upgraded The Entrance Road between Terrigal Drive and Carlton Road to a four-lane dual carriageway (two lanes in each direction).

Construction of the 650-metre long project commenced in January 2006 and opened to traffic in August 2007.

Background

The Entrance Road between Terrigal Drive and Carlton Road provides an important connection between Gosford and the northern beach areas such as Wamberal, Forresters Beach and The Entrance for approximatly 28,000 vehicles each day.

Improved proposal

The concept for the upgrade was displayed for comment in October 2003. The final proposal incorporates the improvements made in response to community feedback.

Features of the project include:

  • Two lanes in each direction providing a major improvement in traffic capacity.
  • Bus bays provided immediately south of Hammersmith Road for northbound passengers and immediately north of Karwin Avenue for north and southbound passengers.
  • Hammersmith Road and Karwin Avenue are restricted to left turn in and out.
  • A shared pedestrian/bicycle path along the full length of the project on the eastern side of the road  provides access for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • The service road on the eastern side of The Entrance Road, opposite Hammersmith Road, has been reconstructed and extended to the north to provide improved access for local residents.
  • The road alignment near Hubbards Creek has been moved west to minimise the environmental and property impacts.
