Intersection upgrade of Dane Drive and Masons Parade
Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) has upgraded the intersection of Dane Drive and Masons Parade at Gosford to improve public transport, road safety and traffic flow. The project was funded by the NSW Government and opened to traffic in October 2008.
Background
The intersection of Dane Drive and Masons Parade at Gosford provides a key link for road users accessing the Gosford CBD, Erina, West Gosford and the F3 Freeway. Approximately 40,000 vehicles use this intersection per day. The project design was modified in response to community consultation in 2006.
The project
The key features of the upgrade included:
- Provision for two dedicated turning lanes for vehicles turning left from Masons Parade.
- Retention of the dedicated right hand turning lane on Masons Parade for vehicles accessing the boat ramp car park.
- Redesigned entry and exits from the boat ramp car park to improve safety for vehicles with boat trailers.
- Bus priority signal integrated with the Gosford bound bus bay on Masons Parade.
- The existing pedestrian signals near the Gosford swimming pool were relocated to tie in with the upgraded bus facilities.
- Landscaping plans were developed in liaison with Gosford City Council.
Benefits
The upgrade at this intersection provides:
- Reduced vehicle delays and improved travel times through additional and improved turning lanes.
- Improved bus bays to enable buses to stop and re-enter the flow of traffic more efficiently, and provide safer access for passengers.
- Improved pedestrian access to the foreshore.
