Avoca Drive upgrade – Central Coast Highway to Sun Valley Road

Avoca Drive has been upgraded from the Central Coast Highway to Sun Valley Road at Green Point.

Background

Avoca Drive is the key route linking the residential suburbs of Kincumber, Avoca, Copacabana, MacMasters Beach and Green Point with the commercial areas of Erina and Gosford.

Over 28,000 vehicles use this section of Avoca Drive each day.

The project

The upgrade of Avoca Drive provided an additional lane in each direction between the Central Coast Highway and Sun Valley Road.

Providing the additional lanes has eliminated the traffic merging from the Central Coast Highway, improving traffic flow and facilitated better use of the upgraded intersection at Avoca Drive and the Central Coast Highway.

Construction commenced in November 2006 and opened to traffic in December 2007.

Features

  • Two lanes in each direction between the Central Coast Highway and Sun Valley Road.
  • Opposing traffic has been separated by a raised median to improve safety.
  • Widened shoulders in both directions and a shared footpath/cycleway on the eastern side have provided improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians along the corridor.

Benefits

  • Improved safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Improved use of both turning lanes at the intersection of the Central Coast Highway and Avoca Drive further reducing delays and travel times.
