Bus Corridor Program

Warringah Freeway bus layover - Bus corridor 6

The bus layover built on a section of the Warringah Freeway at Cammeray has been completed.
Buses on the M2 Motorway service began using the new facility at the end of May 2011. Work on the layover started in March 2010.

The layover is located near the Miller Street on-ramp adjacent to the western boundary of the Cammeray Golf Course.

The facility provides a safe waiting area for up to 30 buses at a time and enables them to get in and out of the Sydney CBD faster during the evening traffic peak. This reduces waiting times for passengers and improves bus travel times.

On week day evenings, up to 50 buses can move about 2,500 passengers over a two-hour period. This works out to 30,000 passengers a week or 1.6 million passengers a year.

BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT

  • Up to 30 buses are able to wait in the layover area instead of circulating on city streets before picking up passengers.
  • The facility allows buses to enter and exit the Sydney CBD faster during the evening peak.
  • Improves the reliability of buses servicing the CBD.
  • Improves bus operations on M2 Motorway services.
  • Allows for future growth in M2 bus patronage.
