Northern beaches busway - Bus corridor 16
Bus travel times and the reliability of bus services are being improved on the Northern Beaches, thanks to the busway strategy being implemented by the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and Transport for New South Wales.
A key element of the Northern Beaches Busway Strategy is the provision of continuous bus lanes on Pittwater Road between Seaforth and Mona Vale.
Bus priority measures introduced so far have improved the reliability of regional and city-bound bus services and the flow of general traffic on Bus Corridor 16, which links suburbs on the Northern Beaches with the Sydney CBD.
The bus priority measures introduced so far have not affected on-street parking because the bus lanes only operate during the AM and PM traffic peaks at the same times as the Clearways they replaced - Monday to Friday 6am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm.
Recently completed work
In February 2012, a 5km long AM bus lane between Narrabeen and the Dee Why shops was completed on Pittwater Road.
Completion of the bus lane extension and the provision of traffic lights at the Lismore Avenue intersection has brought three benefits:
- Improved bus service reliability and efficiency.
- Improved traffic safety.
- Improved pedestrian safety.
Further north on Pittwater Road at North Narrabeen, bus lanes and right turn bays have been extended at the intersections with Garden Street and Jackson Road.
These works complement other bus priority measures, which include upgrading the Pittwater Road/Warringah Road intersection and installing AM and PM bus lanes from Warringah Road to Dee Why town centre.
Other completed work
- AM southbound and PM northbound bus lanes at the intersection of Pittwater Road and Wakehurst Parkway at North Narrabeen.
