Inner West Busway along Victoria Road
New traffic arrangements
The Inner West Busway has required implementation of various new traffic arrangements through Drummoyne and Rozelle.
Lane management scheme
A new lane management scheme using a barrier transfer machine, known as the Zipper, now operates on Victoria Road, Drummoyne between Seymour Street and Iron Cove Bridge.
The Zipper, which is housed overnight at Leichhardt Bus Depot, is driven via Balmain Road, City West Link and Victoria Road to the western end of Iron Cove Bridge. It arrives around 5.30am each weekday morning. The Zipper then transfers the median barrier from one lane to another to create a dedicated citybound bus lane during the AM peak weekdays (between 6am and 10am).
More information about the lane management scheme is available here.
Iron Cove Bridge
The new Iron Cove Bridge is now open. It carries three lanes 'westbound' including a bus lane during the AM peak weekdays (between 6am and 10am). A 4.3m wide shared-use path on the new bridge provides an improved Iron Cove crossing for pedestrians, pram and wheelchair users and cyclists. It greatly improves connectivity and accessibility for users of the Bay Run.
The existing bridge now carries a bus lane and three general traffic lanes citybound 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. the footpath on the existing bridge has remained open for use.
More information about the new bridge is available here.
Traffic access
To provide safe and efficient operation of the citybound bus lane along Victoria Road, access to Iron Cove Bridge from Henley Marine Drive via Cary Street is not permitted in the AM peak weekdays (between 6am and 10am). Motorists need to use an alternative route.
Parking and clearways
Changed parking arrangements are in place on Victoria Road, Drummoyne. Parking is not permitted on either side of Victoria Road in the AM peak weekdays (between 5.30am and 10am) or during the PM peak weekdays (between 3pm and 7pm weekdays).
Motorists are advised to check signs and to move vehicles before clearways and bus lanes start.
Vehicles parked illegally will be towed. A towing fee will be charged and fines apply. Public parking areas are located off Formosa Street and Marlborough Street.
Bus stops
To enable the Inner West Busway and Victoria Road to operate efficiently the bus stops at Seymour Street (citybound), Park Avenue (citybound), Church Street (westbound) and Tavistock Street (westbound) are closed during the AM peak weekdays (between 6am and 10am).
A new bus stop operates at Cary Street in the AM peak weekdays (between 6am and 10am).
A map of changes to bus stops along Victoria Road is available here.
