Inner West Busway along Victoria Road
New lane management scheme and 'Zipper'
A new lane management scheme and barrier transfer machine – 'the Zipper' now operates along Victoria Road. The Zipper is used to transfer the concrete barrier from one lane to another to create a dedicated citybound bus lane from Seymour Street to Iron Cove Bridge in the AM peak weekdays (between 6 and 10am), without reducing the number of general citybound traffic lanes. Following the morning peak period, the Zipper moves the barriers back.
Traffic controls, including lights in the pavement and changeable traffic signs, will notify motorists as to which lanes are operating in the direction of their travel.
A dedicated bus lane in the morning peak period gives priority to buses resulting in more reliable bus services and bus travel time savings of up to 17 minutes for citybound commuters in the busiest part of the morning peak period when the majority of patrons are using them.
